The Plan Airs Sunday

SyFy airs The Plan Sunday the 10th, so if you haven't seen it on DVD yet, check it out.

An excellent review of The Plan by Ben Scarlato for the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies. And Nicole Anell provides an entertaining view of the film on Live Journal.

Imagine if The Plan had Dollhouse style credits:

And when you visit SyFy's site, and you are an iPhone or iPod touch user, be sure to download the free Cylon Bobble app.

Thanks for linking me! Love the fake Dollhouse credits, especially the ending. :D

You're quite welcome. I think the funnest and best line in your review was when you wrote: "First of all, this is not a movie. It's like some kind of crazy art project they did for extra credit."

That just about summed up the movie for me. :) It's a really enjoyable film, but it is kinda weird. Most definitely an art project.

I've gotta admit - the movie was actually very mildly disappointing for me, if only because we really didn't get much more insight into the Cylon side of things than we'd gotten in previous episodes. Not that what we got was bad, because it wasn't, but I was expecting something a bit more revelatory than what we got, which was mostly Cavil trying to play puppet master and epically failing at it because his puppets keep falling in love with those damned humans.

I don't think we really learned much more than we already knew, except perhaps how far Cavil was willing to take it on a personal level (the deal with the kid was almost too much for me, even by BSG standards) and seeing how Anders turned the C-Bucs from a Pyramid team into a guerrilla resistance unit, which was a worthwhile story to tell. (And I love that they made him a bit of a war-movie buff; that just felt right somehow.)

Honestly, though, I went into this movie expecting what was promised, key events from the first two seasons as seen from the Cylon perspective. Instead, I got two hours of the Cavil Hates Everybody Show, interspersed with the Sharon Valerii Pity Party Special and a remake of Red Dawn starring the Caprica Buccaneers. Which I don't have a problem with, mind you, since the writing was certainly up to snuff (especially with Cavil, who was as deliciously cynical in his observations as ever) and nothing felt like an out-and-out retcon, always a danger when telling a story like this. But it still feels, in the end, like a bit less than what was promised.

Also, what was the deal with the dedication at the end? I'm a bit out of touch...

I agree with thekid on how disappointing The Plan was, but disagree that the writing was anything approaching even mediocrity. The movie was literally just old galactica scenes poorly spliced into an incoherent and dismally written pseudo-plot about the cylon "plan". I won't go into specifics because I don't want to spoil it for anyone still intent on watching it, but suffice it to say that The Plan adds nothing to this series besides money grossed for the franchise.

The idea behind it was a good one, but ultimately the team failed to deliver on every conceivable level.

Needless to say, this will be the last Galactica movie I bother buying.
