Speaking of Star Trek...

Further to Logan's previous post...Along with the STAR TREK XI teaser trailer that is now up online after premiering this past weekend with CLOVERFIELD, there is also the beginning of what looks like more of that J.J. Abrams patented clever online marketing.

This includes hidden bits embedded in their new web site, which unlock to reveal several glimpses of what I assume are sets and ships from the film. Including a hallway that looks... hmmm... looks vaguely familiar, doesn't it? *wink*

Certainly doesn't remind me of this:

How about you?

I thought the exact same thing when I saw that.

It looks like a Galactica corridor to me.

In a mega plot twist, it is revealed that the Enterprise is actually the Galactica and the whole movie is actually for BSG.

All that corridor needs is Col. Tigh leaning against a wall with his cup, or pressing his ear to wall listening to All Along the Watchtower.

I wouldn't be surprised if J.J. makes a copycat of BSG with this trekkie thingy, so prepare to get angry. That's the best he can do, plus a brilliant campaign of marketing, that is.

To me Galactica always looked better than Enterprise so no wonder they decided to use the idea ;)

You read my mind! I just hope the movie isn't another "me too" syndrome of which Trek seems to have a chronic condition. BSG is dark? Let's get dark, too! BSG uses cinema verite? Let's do that, too! Ugh.

Trek "died" because it ran out of good original ideas, kinda like Hollywood.

The more that leaks out about JJ Abrams' version of Star Trek the more I know they're on the wrong track:

-lame time-travel plot device
-silvers and greys instead of the primary colors and white
-Quinto as Spock instead of Urban
(switching roles - Urban as Spock, Quinto as a Romulan, and Bana as McCoy would work much better - and dump Winona Ryder please)

It is the original series' look, sound, music and strong stories that created the franchise and now these GenXers and GenY execs and filmmakers are going to get it wrong ... again.

I'm not worried. Firstly, JJ Abrams is awesome. Secondly, Quinto is a great, great choice for Spock. Thirdly, you can't expect them to make something as low-budget, cheesy, campy, and 60s-colored as ST:TOS.

It is, like BSG, a complete reimagine.

As for that hallway...while it makes me think of an earlier post, I also feel that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
