Worth Every Penny

Guys...I know times are tough. I know there's a massive, amazing auction coming in just a week.

But. Remember this lovely item, the wrap yearbook? Now you have a chance to own one. If you act fast.

I want you all to know I have seen one of these. I have held one in hand and read quite a bit of it. It is truly the most special, amazing bit of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA residue that a TruFan could ever, EVER get their hands on.

So what I'm saying is...if you have the money...GO FOR IT.

Thanks to reader Laura for the link.

[PS - I am told this yearbook is not spoilery. In case you're wondering.]

Where Do We Go From Here?

There was an interview conference call this week with Ron Moore and David Eick, and many bloggers have been reporting on it in bits and pieces. Here’s a bunch of nifty highlights from various sources including Cinema Blend’s full transcript of the call...

  • The BATTLESTAR GALACTICA season 4 finale will indeed be three hours long. SciFi is still working out how to air those 3 hours on their schedule. There are apparently plans to air the entire three hours all together at least once.

  • Other projects Moore is working on right now include CAPRICA, VIRTUALITY, and new drafts of the THING movie*. Moore says he’ll be “bouncing back and forth” between CAPRICA and THE THING. Both Eick and Moore both list CAPRICA as top on their current to-do list.

  • BSG: THE PLAN and CAPRICA do not have air dates planned yet, but THE PLAN is shot and is being edited now.

  • Moore had this to say about CAPRICA:
We start shooting probably in July, we're putting the writing staff together now and the crew, and just staffing up and getting ready to go. We'll start breaking stories probably in February, and maybe as soon as the end of the month depending on when all the pieces go together. We have a game plan of what the general storyline is and some directions so we're not starting completely from scratch.

... We sort of set out deliberately to set up Caprica so that you didn't have to see Battlestar. I think you could literally watch the pilot of Caprica without seeing a single frame of film from Galactica and you would get it. You could invest in that story completely on its own from there. We want it to stand as its own project.

  • From Clique Clack:
As far as the webisodes go, Moore didn't know that the webisodes were leaked. He didn't seem all that bothered by it but he was surprised. Moore said he does read some reviews online and will look at some commentary as the show's airing, to see what people have to say.

Someone asked Moore if, out of all the theories he's read out there, has anyone been right? He said there are definitely some spot-on theories, but he hasn't seen anyone who's nailed the whole thing down.

* Bloody Disgusting got a tip recently about the outline of Ron Moore’s THING script (spoiler warning)…and if you STILL haven’t seen THE THING 1982, what are you waiting for? It’s awesome, and it’s on Hulu!

Go in to minute 4...

(Thanks to reader Bonney for the above.)

And, for the gazillion friends and readers who sent this link to me in the past 24 hours: check out BATTLESTAR FACEBOOK. Hilarious.  The LA Times tracked down the fan who made this and interviewed her.  "It's Complicated."

Inside The Secrets Of The Behind The Making Of...

Someone has just posted the Bear McCreary "documentary" onto youtube. Not sure how long it'll be there, especially now that I'm posting about it...but you must, MUST, watch part 2, 6 1/2 mins in, right away. LOLOL

Webisode 8 (YouTube)

Enhanced 'sode 8 is here.

Los Angeles Times <3 BSG

The LA Times Show Tracker blog is taking fan questions for, well, apparently the ENTIRE cast and all the producers of BSG. Seriously. Go here and leave some; you never know who they’ll interview next.

The blog just published interviews with Jane Espenson and Richard Hatch, one assumes there is much more to come.

Sitrep was a tad remiss this past month and didn’t mention that the LA Times print edition also showed BSG some massive love in late November, when they decided BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is one of the main sci-fi franchises of our day. On November 23rd they published an entire Sci-Fi Movie/TV themed issue of their Sunday Calendar section. Yoda, Spock and a Cylon graced the front page…

On the next page was this Jamie Bamber interview

And the cover article continued inside with more BSG photo goodness…

Also in the issue was a piece speaking with Dave Howe of SciFi (formerly known as the Sci Fi Channel), waxing poetic about BATTLESTAR GALACTICA coming to an end and how much it has effected their network. By very little coincidence, the CAPRICA pickup was announced a week or so after this issue hit the newsstand.

Keep that love flowin’, LAT…

Deleted Scenes

Aint It Cool News appears to have written descriptions of all of the deleted scenes on the 4.0 DVD.

Meanwhile the two deleted scenes that are posted on Best Buy’s website, for “Six of One” and “Faith” are apparently NOT on the 4.0 DVD set. Extra stuff, cool! (Thanks to Iron, and Bill Hunt, for the tip.)

Webisode 8 (Hulu)

Also at SciFi.com.

New clip from season 4.5

SciFiWire and Hulu have posted this clip today that we assume is from ep 413, "Sometimes A Great Notion." For our global (non US) viewers, try the first link at SciFiWire, that player seems to be international.

DVD clips online

io9 has an exclusive clip from one of the 4.0 DVD extras, with footage of David Eick and Mark Verheiden discussing the show.

Youtuber kdlmd243 has posted these four clips from the DVD extras.

CAPRICA clip on SciFi Wire

Well whaddya know...the newly relaunched Sci Fi Wire blog has an exclusive clip from the CAPRICA pilot, of Lacy Rand introducing Daniel Graystone to the V-Club.

From the blog post: "Production on the series is slated to begin in the summer of 2009 in Vancouver, Canada, for a 2010 premiere."

11 More Days. Time For a Spoiler PSA.

Before the final season starts and the final webisodes air, Logan and I wanted to take a moment to discuss the spoiler policy around here.

Galactica Sitrep has run with a “spirgin-sensitive” policy* for some time now, and we will continue to do so through the rest of the series and as far forward as this blog is going.

With even some journalists now wanting to establish an admirably hardcore anti-spoiler stance for season 4.5, this seems like a good time to explain the policy here in more detail.

While we link all the time to spoilers on other sites, and once in a while may actually announce a tiny one ourselves…in truth, neither Logan nor I wants to read spoilers about any more of the show from here on in. I have been avoiding about 95% of them since last spring; Logan has decided to abstain from any further spoilers starting now.

What does this mean here at Sitrep? For one thing, PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY SPOILERS IN OUR COMMENTS. Even with a “spoiler warning” notice, your comment will get deleted.

You can post a link to a spoiler on another site. That’s OK – as long as you warn about it, and you do not afterwords try to discuss said spoiler in our comments section. That will get you deleted.

After an episode (or webisode, or sneak peak clip, or promo ad) has aired, feel free here to discuss anything that happened in that ep. But you should not be randomly dropping spoilers about the future episodes into the conversation. That might get you deleted.

If there is a post where Logan or I specifically warn of spoilers in the comments, or want to discuss a certain spoiler in the comments, obviously you can openly discuss that item. But it does not mean we want to discuss any other random spoilers. That will certainly get you deleted.

If you see something in the comments that is spoilery, and it bugs you, feel free to ping ProgGrrl at gmail dot com and say something.  Maybe we missed it.

Sorry Amazon…Best Buy won this round.

The BATTLESTAR GALACTICA season 4.0 DVD set hits the American market in two days…and suddenly I am indescribably happy that I didn’t pre-order on Amazon. Alert fans over at the LJ Battlestar Blog have unearthed photos of the special package that American and Canadian Best Buy shops are selling:

Definitely worth busting Best Buy’s door down first thing Tuesday morning getting online and pressing BUY to get yours. [hat tips to annosuperstar and laughtrack]

Further on the DVD front:

…This Digital Bits article that says the DVD set will have one whole hour of deleted scenes (thanks Mr. Moore!), four new featurettes, a full set of 4.0 podcasts…and possibly a new CAPRICA trailer, which would be good news, since that first trailer wasn’t doing the new series too many favors. Some of us were hoping this 4.0 box might include the 20-minute Making Of RAZOR featurette that was in the Best Buy RAZOR DVD packages last fall, but it looks like that will have to wait.

...One of those new DVD featurettes is "Inside the Secrets of the Behind the Making of the Music of Battlestar Galactica Revealed", which some of you got a peek at during Bear McCreary's Los Angeles concerts last spring. Bear has updated his own blog about this short film, adding at the end of the post that he'll be blogging about BSG music weekly after each episode, just like last spring...and that another BSG concert is in the works. Exciting!

…Sitrep has received some more information from our own trusted sources, that confirms what Mark Verheiden mentioned in passing a while back – NBCU is most definitely creating a Blu-Ray DVD release for the entire BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series once it ends this year. Exact content of the box is unknown…but several special commentary items have recently been recorded with Ron Moore and some of the other writer/producers.

Sepinwall’s List

Another excellent interview with Ron Moore has just popped up online – Alan Sepinwall (alt link) spoke to Moore at length during the Summer 2008 TCA press events, about the end of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, his goals for CAPRICA, the Emmys and the challenges that sci-fi faces these days finding its wider audience attention.

I wouldn’t go so far as to call this interview spoilery…but Sepinwall asks Moore about a list of his own burning unanswered questions after the end of season 4.0. And Moore responds to everything on the list. Perhaps you can skip that part if you are 100% spoiler-free.

Sitrep would love to hear about your burning questions remaining for season 4.5. Come down into the comments to discuss – BUT PLEASE, NO OUTSIDE SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS, K?
