Strange New Worlds is a disaster of epic proportions.
An overview of several aspects of the awful second season:
Captain Pike is the most incompetent and inept captain in Starfleet history. He is even worse than Captain Dunsel. Instead of commanding his vessel he spends the majority of his time in his gargantuan condo cooking meals for his underlings, like Jim Backus wearing an apron in Rebel Without a Cause. Witness the incompetence of Christopher Pike:
- He has no idea his XO is Illyrian and that she lied about it.
- He covered up this fact when informed and didn’t follow procedures to report it to upper echelons.
- His chief medical officer is a murderer having killed in cold blood a Klingon dignitary on his ship, and he’s completely oblivious to this fact. His security chief is also woefully incompetent to not have been able to discern that a murder took place in sickbay. The head nurse is an accessory to murder by lying and engaging in a coverup. Evidence of these crimes should have been detectable to a competent security chief and starship captain.
- When his communications ensign orders an attack on a massive (and expensive?) piece of equipment (the Tibanna gas mine?) without consulting experts like say, his chief science officer, he simply accepts his ensign’s word and surrenders command decisions to her whims.
- His decisions regarding the Gorn attack on the colony are all poorly conceived and he’s emotionally compromised by his lovelorn feelings for Captain Batel. By the end of the season he is standing on his bridge with his dick in his hand staring out the window completely frozen and paralyzed with indecision and incompetence. A total disgrace and he should be relieved of command and possibly face a court martial.
There is simply no realistic way this man, as presented on this silly show, would ever be allowed to command a starship let alone the “flagship” in this absurd alternative Trek Discoverse failed series by shameful hacks Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Meyers.
The only way this so-called series could be saved is if Terry Matalas and the 12 Monkeys/Picard season 3 team were brought in to fix it.
But hopefully they instead will be doing Star Trek Legacy in the proper, legitimate canonical Bermanverse while the JJ/Kurtzmanverse withers and dies and is officially declared non-canon and banned by an act of Congress so that future generations will not be polluted by Kurtzman’s egregious sins of cultural date rape of the Roddenberry legacy.
Make it so.
So say we all.
