Blood and Chrome

Maureen Ryan of The Chicago Tribune exclusively reports on a new BSG spin-off project:

Those who've been hoping for a new chapter of the "Battlestar Galactica" story may get their wish.

An online series called "Blood & Chrome" is in the works, one that would follow the experiences of a young William "Husker" Adama in the first Cylon War. According to Mark Stern, Syfy's executive vice president of original programming and the co-head of original content for Universal Cable Productions, "Battlestar Galactica" and "Caprica" co-executive producer Michael Taylor will write the the script for the new venture.

"Blood & Chrome" is "about a young man's initiation into war: both the realities of war as fought by soldiers on the ground (and in Battlestars and Vipers), and the somewhat less real version portrayed in the media," according to Taylor.

Read further details about the project, and more about season 1.5 of Caprica here.

The webisodes sound awesome. The piece we saw in Razor was fun, and so long as they don't frak it up with making Adama into something he's not, I think there's a chance to tell a great story during Cylon War I, which dragged on for so long and was so horrible.

Caprica, however, gave away their entire season in the extended trailer. It's clear what's going to happen - the Zoe avatar will figure out a way to replicate and the monotheists will see the virtual world as a way to "live forever" (even though they're not) and end up somehow being the cylon "brains" (or take them over) and ergo Cylon War I.

It's kind of disappointing to think that the Cylons are essentially descended from a bratty, evil, selfish rich girl and some over zealous hippie types. And that chick playing Zoe is so untalented and unattractive.

Just an objection on one point you made.... I think the actress playing Zoe is quite attractive. :)

I thought from "Razor" that Adama's only action in the war was in that one final battle.

Should I forget that tidbit?

Wherever Darth Mojo is right now, I'm sure he is real frakkin' happy. ;)

@Trey, actually it's always been Adama's backstory that he served at least 2 years in the Cylon War.

@ProgGrrl I already sent a note to Darth to find out his reaction. ;)

Sounds kind of like where our society came from. Only in our case, depending on your school of thought, a bunch of poop flinging apes. Maybe it's not such a bad analogy that the Cylons came from such a simple beginning.

I am sure though it'll become more complex and muddied. Tamara(not sure if that's right) may be the key. That would be great irony considering the future of her brother.

Great news on the webisodes, so how about a series about the Final Five? while they can still use the actors.

How's about a show finale reboot rather than a series of prequels?

Caprica is good-ish. I hope this Blood and Chrome is better. What I'm finding with Caprica is a reluctance to take bold steps. A desire to satisify core fans sprinkled with cute emo teen demographic fodder because, that's where the money's at. Bold is something Galactica, even with the kitten weak ending, was able to do. A series about the Final Five sounds promising, but that'd require something like solid answers (or, as solid as a sci fi show can provide) of the producers/writers. Something they're clearly not willing to do.

I like the idea of more material, but I am not sure more prequels can be sustained based on the rock soup finale that we were served.
