Edward James Olmos holds court

EJO on G4 recently.

Also Olmos recently made a special appearance in Cleveland at the Screaming Tiki Convention where he participated in a panel discussion on Saturday. On Sunday he sat down with Jamie Ruby of MediaBlvd for an exclusive interview.

The idea of Eddie on Twitter cracks me up. The character limit would kill him. :P

One thing I wish Mr. Olmos would do is not just refer to conflicts among other peoples but to those needless conflicts created by America in recognition of its own historic and continuing atrocities. He's in the best position to talk about this stuff, and I've seen him even talk about how the US has treated Latin American countries badly. He has the soap box; he should use it for the audience that's listening to him.

He can't affect what's going on among Israelis and Palestinians, but he could talk about all the US legal and financial and military support given to the Israeli government to keep up the occupation.

He can talk about the US wars in Vietnam and Iraq and the 1953 CIA coup of a somewhat democratic Iranian regime and about US support for the brutal Shah and US support for Saddam's 8-year war on Iran.

These are things his fans need to hear because they can act to affect the US; they can't stop the Iranian government from attacking protestors or discourage Muslims from joining Al Qaeda or resolve the tension between the 2 Koreas or solve Darfur or Tibet or any of that stuff. But they can do something about those conflicts at which the US sits at the heart or is the originator. Sadly, it seems he's scared to.

And yet that was what was so great about DS9 and BSG. Rather than situate conflict among other species and see it as their fault alone, these shows said that our heroes were part of the cycle of violence. That was such an important revolution in terms of TV fiction.
