I haven't watched a Trek movie since First Contact. They got bland and boring. It was a total lack of interest. I have to admit, after watching this trailer, I'm stoked to see this new one.
At first I was thinking, well this is going to be another generic popcorn sci-fi flick which won't do regular Trek fans any good.
But then I remembered, Trek hasn't had been what I'd consider a quality series since 1995 (when Voyager appeared), and First Contact in 96 was the last good Trek film. So in retrospect... Trek hasn't been that good for ages anyway, so this film can only help the franchise, not make it any worse. :)
I would have been excited for this film a few years ago, before I found BSG. Still love some select Trek episodes, but the overall percentage of good episodes in BSG is *so* much higher than it ever was in any Trek series, it's hard to get excited about anything new in that universe. Blah -- BSG has spoiled my appetite for anything Trek (and God, I used to love it!). Seems so childish now, and honestly, this new movie looks more childish, not less. Kirk's "Why you talkn' to me, man?" ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Every time I see that old-school trek shirt fabric poster image, I smile -- because my boss and I did that poster for the Paramount advertising dept. a few years ago. :)
I had several framed and delivered to Abrams/Orci/Kurtzman, back while they're were just beginning to write the script.
