What Ron Said

Two more good interviews are available with Ron Moore this week: he talks with Geek Monthly Magazine in their February issue about BSG, DEEP SPACE NINE, CAPRICA and VIRTUALITY, as well as the changing face of sci-fi television. You can see a sample of the interview here. Several of the more, um, critical fanboys who hang over at the SciFi.com BSG forum and GalacticaBS somehow managed to corral Moore into an interview for MediaBlvd, with some very entertaining results. I guess this second interview should have a mild spoiler warning on it. Moore says some very interesting things about several key characters. Interesting…yet vague.

Meanwhile as you’ve all probably noticed by now, Moore’s new THING prequel/sequel film has a director. Some are happy about this…some, not so much.

I think I would put a spoiler warning on that interview. I read something I kind of wish I hadn't.....

OK I changed it...even though I feel like there wasn't anything big let loose in that interview. But spirginal purity is still important around here. ;-)

I would be one of those out there who are unhappy that The thing is being remade or prequeled.
I do own a lot of pulps and do own the original Astounding Stories that the story this is based on called Who goes There by John W. Campbell jr.This is a short story and the action flows nicely, has no females in it,and is a lot like what John Carpenter did.The older Howard Hawks version is one I loved as a youngster but it didnot follow the story at all and was "loosely" based on it.
John Carpenter's film hits it on the nose perfectly. It has great effects, story, and the cold snowy settings. It does not need a remake/reboot nor does it need a prequel of what happened to the norwegians. Why would you need a prequel ? So you can capitilize on the name of the film and give us another film just like john carpenter's film cause that is what you are going to get. They will discover the thing and it will wake up and it will take over the norwegians one by one like in JC's film so what gives ??

My respect for Moore is now down a few notches just like i lose respect for others like gus van zant for his krap sellout Psycho remake.I have a lot of original films, work in one of prtland maine's oldest videostore and have an 800 piece collection of older rare sci-fi.plus tons of music, etc.
in other words i have enough in my life that i don't have to bother with watching this film and will boycott it and any other lame remakes.I have had it with all these reboots.i said it to myself before but after BSG you won't find reboots/remakes on my box ever !!!

Actually, I think it's a novella. It's more than 7,000 words which is the cut off for short stories.

I think you could find it online for free at Project Gutenberg.

"John Carpenter's film hits it on the nose perfectly."

Carpenter's film is more faithful to the story than the old one, but there were things in "Who Goes There" that didn't get into Carpenter's film. The creature was telepathic and the victims first had dreams of an alien world... It was intelligent and tried to communicate first.

I wonder what the music will be like?
