io9 showcases artwork by Lorin Wood who worked on the upcoming remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still as a previz animation artist and he drew this sort of Cylon take on the robot Gort, in his spare time only for fun. Apparently, the film makers instead simply updated the classic look of Gort from the 1951 film, without doing a radical reinvention. Still, it's pretty frakking cool and would have made Gort at least a cousin to the Cylons.
The Day The Earth Stood Still comes out December 12 and the cast includes Aaron Douglas as Sgt. Winter and Lorena Gale (Elosha) as Scientist #2. (Mad Men's Jon Hamm also co-stars.)

And Alisen Down too! (aka Barolay)
The trailer came out a couple of weeks ago and I sent it to Aaron and asked him if he knew if he was going to be in it or not (because in the MediaBlvd interview back in May, he said "I had a very small part in The Day the Earth Stood Still, the new Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly film. I think they might have recast me and re-shot those scenes.") and he basically told me the same thing that he said in the MediaBlvd interview and said he'd be surprised if he was in it. I saw that there is going to be a guest panel for TDTESS at Comic-Con. I'll go make a post over on the Chief's Deck daring someone to ask if Aaron's in it. LOL.
Intersting to see the alternative Gort, very cylon-like.
BSG was crying out for a remake because the original had a great idea but characterisation was so lightweight. But it's always worrying when your favourite movies get remade. I really disliked I Am Legend and can't say I'm looking forward to the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still. Both the novel of IAL and the original film of TDTEST are great as they are, have stood the test of time and don't need anything (different endings, OTT special effects, Keanu) added.
Dammit, just watched the trailer and now I want to see it. I fall for it every time!
@meshel: oh thanks for that, we didn't know!
@jason: the original film is right up there with my all-time favorites of SciFi movies...yet I too fell for this trailer immediately. Thank god they didn't try to "reimagine" the original's musical score though. ;)
