Bridges in time

Thanks to reader Callum for sending us this very interesting "Revelations" frame grab and comparison photo...It is a long hiatus, and fans will have plenty of time to look closely at the details. Or keep their minds on the bigger picture. Or a bit of both.

“I want the audience to work. I ask them to see the film from the beginning and devote their full attention to it, treating it with the same respect they would give a painting, a symphony or any other work of art. I treat them with the same respect by inviting them to search for their own meanings instead of insulting their intelligence with obvious explanations.”
– Michelangelo Antonioni

"Unless you are educated in metaphor,
you are not safe to be let loose in the world."

-- Robert Frost, Education By Poetry

Another suggestion is that its actually the Sydney Harbor Bridge, there is a college right in the location where they would be standing that has crosses on it.

Google image Sydney Harbor Bridge and you can see the pylons and piers are not high enough (what's left survived a nuclear blast). It is clearly the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan in the distance. We must assume since they set down there that they picked up no signals (radio or otherwise) indicating civilization, or they would have set down among people. A burned out Earth is what we seem to be left with going into the latter half of Season 4. I know most viewers are content with this scenario, but imagine if they'd set down on Earth in 1500 B.C., with thriving and culturally rich populations of Egyptians, Minoans, Chinese, and so on. There would have been a social milieu which would have revered the Cylons and the Colonials as gods.

Being a Sydneysider, my initial thought was that it was the Sydney Harbour Bride, too.

It looks from the comparison between the two images that the sealevel has risen, and level of the ground too seems to be somewhat higher compared to the side of the bridge. I've been wondering at what kind of time span might plausibly have passed between our present and the present in BSG. Decades? Centuries?

I thought that it was Chicago. The Temple of Aurora looked a lot like the Adler Planetarium, down to the pointy thing that would be the sundial. http://www.chicagomag.com/images/2006/July%202006/0607411Adler_Main.jpg
