Eick confirms: No more Bionic Woman

BSG exec producer David Eick told Sci-Fi Wire that the NBC series, Bionic Woman won't be back. Eick elaborated on the experience:

"I just felt that the process was so frustrating, and the conditions under which we were making that show never really came to fruition in such a way that I felt like we could make the show well," Eick said in an interview at SCI FI Channel's upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on March 18. "The actress [Michelle Ryan] we found was wonderful. Some of the writing was good."

But, he added: "We just didn't ever bring it all together like we did with Battlestar. At a certain point, when it becomes that frustrating, I think you're better off to say, 'Let's try again another time,' and let it go."

In other words, "let's give up."

I was not a fan of Bionic Woman for reasons they could have fixed. I doubt it was David Eick's decision to end it.

I got the impression that as an on-air broadcast show, this one was subjected to the "death of a 1000 bosses" who made it a really boring show.

I mean, here we have a bionic woman and she never really kicked any ass, or used her bionics for anything but glorified catfights and kicking. And that whole "boyfriend" thing was so tacked on and so stupid.

it's unfortunate it couldn't be saved but NBC seems to be intent on screwing up as much as humanly possible so this is par for the course.

I never trust Paramount and NBC to do anything other than destroy whatever whatever project comes their way. There are exceptions, but it is a good rule of thumb to remember.

I defintely got the feeling from the get go that there were too many cooks in this kitchen (and I say again here, imagine what would've happened to BSG under those circumstances).

Now we have more quotes from Eick/Sackhoff about the situation that just back up that perspective (see Saturday Toronto Star piece above)...

Too bad. I'll miss deliciously evil Sarah...and what potentially could have been a nifty role for Mark Sheppard.

NEXT!
