A Very Good Start...

SyFy Portal reports that BIONIC WOMAN drew very good ratings on its premiere - coming in higher than Monday's HEROES season 2 premiere, and garnering the best 18-49 y.o. demo ratings for that timeslot since the 1999 premiere of THE WEST WING.

Nice job folks.

I didn't expect to like Bionic Woman at all, but I couldn't not watch it since Katee was in it. Then we also got to see Romo, Chief and Jammer (RIP)!

I was actually pretty surprised that I didn't hate it (but I am ind of bias with the BSG stars). I'll probably keep watching.

Bland lead actress (pretty eyes aren't enough), not the least bit believable as a fighter - and her bartending skills ... suck.

Bad supporting actress (the sister) - in fact, terrible - was nepotism at work with this casting?

David Eick abandoned Battlestar Galactica to make THIS???

Katie Sackoff as the villain is the only bright spot in the whole show - and when your villian completely outclasses your star - your show is in trouble.

Oh, and weak writing ...

I liked it.

I don't agree with most of the harshest negative press. There were weak points in the writing, and hey they don't have Michael Rymer or Kevin Smith setting the visual tone/etc...but it's a strong idea, an AWESOME cast (Ryan included!), and has a wonderfully dark, comic-novel feel. This is a show worth giving another month or two of time to find its "sea legs" and let the Jason Katims Effect sink in.

Sackhoff deserves every kudo she's getting, natch. It's a delicious, layered villain and the richest, chewiest part in the pilot (Mark Sheppard's could also turn out to be pretty yummy, we'll see).

A lot of folks seem to be reacting badly to Ryan's wide-eyed, innocent-girl act here. For me it seems utterly appropriate - she's a low key young woman suddenly thrust into a very masculine, dog-eat-dog world of spies, special ops, hi-tech and superwoman powers. Her reactions and expressions seem completely appropriate. (And Ryan's American accent is pretty darned fine!)

I particularly like the way Ryan is portraying Jamie's lack of physical confidence in her new powers. It's utterly appropriate that Corvus moves and fights like a well-trained expert, and Sommers like a clueless n00b with sub-conscious fight software slowly kicking in (great concept!). And we can see from the available 1.2 and 1.3 photos, that her training is about to begin.

I'm in! Fun stuff.
