SyFy Portal confirms some of the speculation that the reason Sc-Fi Channel might want to split up the final season of BSG is due to the possible writers and actors strikes. The networks want to stockpile projects so they can get stuff on the air in the event of the work stoppage. This is also why Sci-Fi seems to have a renewed interest in making the "Caprica" pilot, since it's a script they already have in hand.
Following up on Mark Verheiden's blog post linked below, Jane Espenson, co-exec producer and writer on Battlestar Galactica, also writes about working in Writers' Rooms on her blog.
