A very slight re-working of this speech was used on Friday's Galactica finale for the Chief's labor speech:
"There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!"
--From the conclusion of Mario Savio's memorable speech, before Free Speech Movement demonstrators entered Sproul Hall to begin their sit-in on December 3, 1964.

"Lay Down Your Burdens Part 2" was an episode that really just came out of the blue.
When my friend asked me to describe it to him, all I could say is: "You have to see it for yourself."
There is one thing that Dave Eick and Ron Moore can be counted on: unexpected twists and plot turns throughout the series. This episode, while not one of my favorites, has earned my respect. It takes guts to stick your neck out like that and throw a series into uncharted territory. Like it or not, this series has changed forever because of the changes the characters are going through.
I think we can see some shades of DS9 in the upcoming season.
I have to agree George. It was courageous and daring. It's a signifigant change, but's good for the show. After all, if you think about it season 1-2 take place in a time line roughly 9 months after the attack in the mini-series. Except that during that time, the actors have all aged 3 years.
So, jumping ahead works quite well. I just hope Adama gets to shave the mustache sometime early in season 3... though that look wasn't as disconcerting as Lee's. I hope he hits the Pegasus gym early on and gets back in shape.
