NBC Universal's Naked Greed

Have you been downloading Battlestar Galactica and other NBC Universal shows from iTunes? Well, forget about it, because thanks to NBC's greed, all their properties will be gone from iTunes by the end of December. Apple released this statement that says NBC wanted the per episode sale price raised from $1.99 to $4.99. The New York Times reports, on all the details of NBC's greedy demands, and their demands for more shady DRM schemes.

As the Times notes:

Among the most popular NBC Universal shows available for sale on iTunes are “Battlestar Galactica,” “The Office” and “Heroes.”
If you are concerned about NBC's egregious actions here, you should let NBC know what you think about their war on consumers.

Did you see the Amazon.com pre-order price for Razor? It was $38.99 when I checked, for a one-disc package with no real special features besides a commentary track. What's up with that?

It's a typo...other sites have the correct price.

Yeah, TV Shows on DVD has asked Amazon to fix the mistake, but Amazon probably is confused and is listing the expected price for the season 3 dvd boxed set.

Universals SRP for Razor is around $26 and the stores will discount that down further.

After 5 or 6 years of iTunes I'm really surprised that hardly anyone has really stopped to look at what is successful, not just in terms of a good digital entertainment store but in a PMP as well.

TV says they are trying to avoid what has happened to the music industry but this doesn't lead me to believe so.

Once again, I know it sucks but I can also see NBC's perspective. They need the Big Bucks that advertisers shell out to finance the production of all these shows.

Selling the shows online to individuals, who don't want to (or cannot) watch the live broadcast w/ads, is awesome from a marketing perspective. But it probably doesn't generate enough upfront cash to finance our favorite shows.

At least, not yet.
