Bear plays Caprica

HT to Grant for finding this great video of Bear McCreary playing some of his CAPRICA score. Based on the title of the youtube video, I assume this was shot while Bear visits Hagen, Germany for the Philarmonic concerts. ETA: Thanks to vidder and fan Caprica-Lex for telling us all about the video down in the comments section of this post.

ETA2: Lex has now uploaded a second video, of Bear McCreary and Raya Yarbrough performing "Lords of Kobol." Lex also interviewed Bear that day for an hour and promises a future upload of that material. Can't wait.

Very cool, if anything Caprica will be good in the respect that Bear is doing the music. I liked the script and the actors in the roles are very good. I guess we can all decide for ourselves come April 21 when the DVD comes out.

Yes, it was made in Hagen, by me *g*

Yesterday, I visited Hagen with a colleague to attend a small press conference for Bear's "Three Faces". The two of us ended up spending the whole day with Bear and his fiancé Raya Yarbrough. We talked -a lot- about Battlestar and many other topics. Also, we walked through Hagen and had lunch together. Bear and Raya are incredible nice people, and I have to thank them for a great day.

We were incredibly lucky that there was a piano in the theatre's meeting room. Bear couldn't resist to sit down and play. He wanted to give us something real special, the theme song to "Caprica". I was quite surprised that we were allowed to record it. Well, here it is, and I love it.

Later today, I'm going to upload another video. I don't remember what song it was, but it's from Battlestar and Raya sang to it. Beautiful video, really. I'll post it in Bear's thread over at caprica-city.de (where this video originally came from, but I'm sure it will be posted here, too by someone.

Lex and I, we were there to cover "Three Faces" for our German BSG website Caprica City. Meeting both Raya and Bear in person, together with one of my best buddies, made for a very special day I'll never forget.

We watched part of the rehearsals (no music, unfortunately, but more on that later). Most importantly, we attended some kind of "press talk" with choreographer Ricardo Fernando, some other theater staff, Bear and Raya, and two other journalists.

Later that day, it was just the four of us (Bear, Lex, Raya and me). What a fascinating experience! We were pleasantly surprised they devoted A LOT of time to answering all geeky our questions about the ballet, STWOM, scoring BSG/Caprica, and the BSG franchise in general, as well as discussing the biz, and talking about all kinds of things. Of course we seized the opportunity to emphasize that BSG and its music has a tremendous impact not just on the lives of the cast and crew, but also on the lives of countless fans around the world.

And as you know now, they even performed several cues and songs from BSG (there was a piano in the room)! Truly a dream come true. Some of this left me speechless, and I have yet to take it all in. In any case: What a warm and gracious couple they are! And to experience all of it together with Lex, one of my best buddies who's equally geeky!! I'll never forget this very special day.

Needless to say, now I'm even more excited to see how Bear and Ricardo's craft translates into a unique ballet performance.

I'll post a longer report later this week.

Oh, and what a pleasure to sit there listening to "Lords of Kobol", "Kat's Sacrifice" or the Caprica theme. Who would have hoped for that? It was frakkin' amazing. Both of them went out for their way to treat us (and the BSG fans) the best way they could.

About the interview: I haven't had the time yet, but I somehow managed to transcribe about 10%. I hope to get it online on Sunday, but don't hold your breath.

Lex: no rush. We can wait! And thanks again.

Pedda: and thanks as well to you for adding your impressions. That was very nice of Bear & Raya...lucky you!
