Statement from Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert on being forced to return to work without their writers:

“We would like to return to work with our writers. If we cannot, we would like to express our ambivalence, but without our writers we are unable to express something as nuanced as ambivalence.”

I am torn about this...on the one had: HUH? How do they go on with NO WRITERS? Also, ummm - they're both WGA members so they were obviously forced back to work upon threatening of cancellation or some such.

OTOH...it will be sooooooo awesome for them to get back on the air to comment on the strike, politics etc. We need them desperately.

Wonder if Viacom has forced them to promise not to discuss the strike? Suppose it's a non-issue - these guys know EXACTLY how to brandish the Subtle Art of Sarcastic Innuendo. Heh heh.

I don't think there is anyway Stewart and Colbert will be muzzled. Though I bet Stephen will play as if he's on the AMPTP side in a nice ironic satirical way.

Jon, along with Dave, and certainly Conan, and probably even Jay, will use their shows to bash their bosses and promote the WGA cause. It'll be the first time the WGA point of view will actually have TV airtime, since the media has been so biased. And yet, even with major media bias, the VAST MAJORITY of the public supports the writers.
