Then, someone from the WGA offices happily distributed the link to a hijacked parody website that even many rank-and-file WGA members felt was over-the-top. All of this is happening right along with the WGA's continuing series of concerts, rallies, mock exorcisms, pencil-drops and Star Trek-themed gatherings.
Keep up the good work people, I think the pencils and the steadfast support from us, the fans, is really getting under the skin of the creeps at the AMPTP. It must drive them crazy to realize that fans have led a grassroots and highly creative effort on behalf of the writers.
But, the best part is actually earlier in the press release:
By now you know that those in charge at the WGA have injected substantial new doses of vitriol into the important and continuing debate on our industry's future. On Monday, in a letter to members of the WGA East, the president of that organization wrote: "They lie. And then they lie again. And then they lie some more."
Hmmmm. It sounds like the AMPTP is shocked! shocked! to find gambling going on in the casino.
Maybe the AMPTP doth protest too much to being called liars. If the shoe fits, wear it. Keep on lying, since it's worked so well for you thus far and clearly worked as a PR move, right?
Looking over the latest howl of fake outrage from the AMPTP makes me think that they must have conducted a new poll and the survey must have come back with more bad news for them, because I'm sure the VAST majority of the public continues to stand behind the writers.
However Galactica Station posted this piece about how Star Trek fans are supporting the moguls, and Battlestar Galactica fans are supporting the WGA. It sounds true, just from looking over comments left on Trek Movie Report, but how true is it really? Anyone know?
Read the whole report at DHD, as it includes information on how the leadership of IATSE under the AMPTP's "yes man" Tom Short, is completely in the pocket of the AMPTP, to the detriment of their own members. (My father was in IATSE for over 30 years, and I can remember him being quite upset at the weakness of his own union that always seemed to cave on the big issues facing labor.)
Soldiarity!

At the risk of sounding "Trek elitist," I'd be surprised if the vast majority of those who self-identify as Trek fans were in support of the moguls.
In general, from the pop-culture analyses I've read, the demographics of Trek fans tend to run 'more educated' and 'more liberal' than the norm, and one would think that would lead them to be pro-labor as well.
I've also not heard many positive things about the new movie from my "hard core" Trek friends, which makes me suspect that those who are worried about the movie are likely a vocal minority among.
Given that RDM also wrote for BSG and DS9 prior to Galactica, coupled with the broad positive showing at the Trek day picket, my suspicion (with absolutely no additional research on which to base it) is that there's probably a broad overlap between Trek and BSG fans and that the majority of those are on the WGA side.
I agree with you. Just because a few loud mouths commenting on Trek Movie report don't seem to be backing the writers, doesn't mean the vast majority of Trek fans don't support the WGA. I think most do.
Turnout for Trek day at Paramount was exceptional.
So, I think you're 100% right eman.
Also, I just glanced at Trek Movie Report, and they are having a web poll asking if people support the writers, studios, or neither, and as of now 65% support the writers. Only about 20% say that they don't.
