Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome

Battlestar Galactica: Blood in Chrome is set to be made as a telefilm and potential backdoor pilot for SyFy. Originally planned as a series of webisodes, SyFy instead decided that Michael Taylor's script was of a larger scale and scope than webisodes could contain. Mo Ryan of the AOL TV has further details and she spoke to SyFy's Mark Stern about the project.

New York, NY – October 22, 2010 – Syfy is readying an exciting all-new chapter in the Battlestar Galactica saga with a greenlight for Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome from Executive Producer David Eick, it was announced today by Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions. Universal Cable Productions will produce the 2-hour pilot with Syfy utilizing cutting edge CGI and virtual technology.

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, a sentient robotic race, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a brash rookie viper pilot enters the fray. Ensign William Adama, barely in his 20's and a recent Academy graduate, finds himself assigned to the newest battlestar in the Colonial fleet... the Galactica. The talented but hot-headed risk-taker soon finds himself leading a dangerous top secret mission that, if successful, will turn the tide of the decade long war in favor of the desperate fleet.

"The 'Galactica' universe as re-imagined by Ron Moore and David Eick is rich with possibilities and backstory," said Mark Stern. "We jumped at the chance to revisit the William Adama character and explore this exciting chapter in the BSG narrative which falls between the events of the original series and the prequel, 'Caprica,' currently airing on Syfy."

"While maintaining the themes of politics, social propaganda, and the timeless question: what does it mean to be human? – 'Blood & Chrome' will also return us to the authentic, relentless depiction of combat and the agony and ecstasy of human-Cylon war, which was the hallmark of 'Battlestar Galactica's' early seasons," said David Eick.

Michael Taylor wrote the teleplay from a story by Eick, Taylor and Bradley Thompson & David Weddle.

Battlestar Galactica re-imagine-er Ronald D. Moore is now apparently re-imagining and rebooting the 1960's tv series The Wild Wild West, as first reported by Entertainment Weekly. This is in addition to his new series in the works previously reported by Deadline Hollywood described as an "adult Harry Potter set in a world ruled not by science but by magic" that he's developing for NBC.





I always liked that show. When I was a kid I'd watch the reruns in syndication. It was pretty cool. (I never saw the Will Smith movie reboot.)

Entire series coming to Netflix Instant Watch

A few sharp-eyed fans have noticed that the entire BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series is now listed on the Netflix site for "streaming coming soon"... some of these fans say as soon as October. Everything in the series except the telefilms Razor and The Plan have streaming listings.

ETA: Netflix has officially announced this new streaming deal with NBC/Universal. The multi-year deal is happening and it begins next week, to include BSG, EUREKA, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, and many other shows.

Nothing like instant gratification to poke one into a rewatch, eh?

Blood and Chrome

Maureen Ryan of The Chicago Tribune exclusively reports on a new BSG spin-off project:

Those who've been hoping for a new chapter of the "Battlestar Galactica" story may get their wish.

An online series called "Blood & Chrome" is in the works, one that would follow the experiences of a young William "Husker" Adama in the first Cylon War. According to Mark Stern, Syfy's executive vice president of original programming and the co-head of original content for Universal Cable Productions, "Battlestar Galactica" and "Caprica" co-executive producer Michael Taylor will write the the script for the new venture.

"Blood & Chrome" is "about a young man's initiation into war: both the realities of war as fought by soldiers on the ground (and in Battlestars and Vipers), and the somewhat less real version portrayed in the media," according to Taylor.

So says Maureen Ryan on her twitter: "Second half of Caprica's first season will arrive January 2011 on Syfy. Trailer for that half of season to premiere at Comic-Con."

Not sure if this is exclusive or what. Strike that, it was a press release.

Bear at SDCC

Bear McCreary has detailed his schedule for San Diego Comic Con on his blog.

After the intense Music of Battlestar Galactica concerts at the House of Blues last year, I’m perfectly content just to roam the convention and take it easy this year. So, if you see a dude walking around with dark hair and a goatee, it’s either me… or maybe Ron Moore. :)

However, I will be making a few appearances, including two panels and a CD signing. So, track me down and say hi, especially if you’re a frequent blog follower.

Bear also hints that there will be a surprise announcement at SDCC of a new project he is working on.

And congratulations to Bear on his first Emmy nomination for his outstanding opening theme for Human Target.

James Marsters coming to Comic-Con

Ms. Torresani tweeted today that Marsters will join her at the CAPRICA panel this Friday.

We have no further confirmation, but we hope it's true!

SAN DIEGO COMICON ALERT: James will be joining Alessandra Torresani and Sasha Roiz on the "Caprica" panel scheduled for Friday, July 23rd from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM. He will be signing autographs and taking photographs on Saturday and Sunday.

Edward James Olmos encourages us to regain our sanity and realize that we need to shift to safe, clean and renewable energy.

On a similar note, HBO recently began airing a powerful documentary called Gasland, about natural gas drilling, a process the industry calls "fracking." Unfortunately for us, the Halliburton fracking process tends to saturate ground water with cancer causing chemicals and natural gas, so that people who have water wells near fracking sites get to enjoy flammable water coming out of their household faucets. A situation that could really frak up New York City's supply of clean drinkable water. Learn more about that here.
