finale of Battlestar Galactica, "Daybreak" will run the length of 3 episodes, as confirmed by
Cinemablend and
TV Squad, part one will air on March 13th, with the final 2 hours airing together on March 20th.

ReplyDeleteI'd honestly be kind of surprised if there has, but has there been any news about the longer DVD cuts of the episodes (particularly Daybreak)? I've been a bit disappointed by Scifi's whole "we are totally going to show longer versions of the episodes, guys!" thing. So far it's only really been a few minutes on a couple episodes.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping that from here on out we get 15 extra minutes on every episode, and even more hoping that Daybreak 2 runs an extra 20 minutes long or so ;)
Tighclops, David Eick initially promised double episodes, but it looks like Ron Moore made the mistaken decision to not do it and I think the episodes are suffering, particularly if you read Maureen Ryan's interview with Michael Angeli about "Blood on the Scales". So far, Ron has only said he'll do longer versions on DVD for his directorial debut and "Daybreak".
ReplyDeleteI think this has been a huge mistake because if you look at the deleted scenes for 4.0, there's lots of stuff justifying longer cuts. Head Six saying "bye" to Baltar was omitted from the cut of "The Road Less Travelled". Kind of a pivotal moment for one of the series' best characters, don't you think, Mr. Moore?
What I want to know is: the old school cylon attack scenes in the "No Exit" opening - have those been used before or could they be from "The Plan"?

ReplyDeleteDecisions about deleted scenes and longer cuts are down to the Sci-Fi Channel. My guess is that Eick felt that the SFC was happy to do longer episodes, but when it came down to it the SFC decided they weren't going to do that. If they wrote and filmed episodes with the longer running time in mind and they couldn't do it, that could be a problem, but so far they seem to have just about coped with it.
ReplyDeleteThe 'goodbye' scene with Head-Six from ROAD LESS TRAVELLED was apparently removed because the producers decided they didn't want to lose her altogether, and in fact some additional Head-Six material was shot for later episodes (and, ironically, it has been cut for time, most notably scenes of her appearing to Baltar on the surface of nuked Earth).
The confusion over DAYBREAK has been because we were previously told that it was a two-parter (DAYBREAK PART 1 and DAYBREAK PART 2), but Part 2 would be a double-length episode. The confusion really set in because people have started talking about a 'three hour' event, which as far as I can tell means that DAYBREAK PART 1 (45 mins) and PART 2 (90 mins) will be shown together on 20 March, NOT that DAYBREAK PART 2, by itself, is now a 135-minute special.
