Weddle & Thompson leaving for Vegas

SyFy Portal has received confirmation from BATTLESTAR GALACTICA writer/producer David Weddle, that he and his writing partner Bradley Thompson have just left the BSG team. They are both starting new jobs next week on CSI.

"When we got the offer, we had to call Ron Moore and ask to be released from the movie," Weddle told SyFy Portal's Michael Hinman. "It was one of the most difficult calls we ever had to make, but Ron made it easy by telling us we should seize this new opportunity."

The two will join the Las Vegas version of "CSI" on CBS beginning July 7 as writers and supervising producers, a similar role they had with "Battlestar Galactica." Because of the new job, they had to withdraw from writing the upcoming "Battlestar Galactica" movie, instead handing the reins over to popular writer Jane Espenson, as first reported on Galactica Sitrep.

"Jane Espenson has eagerly grabbed the baton and will write the movie," Weddle confirmed. "We helped the staff outline the plot this week, and this [Thursday] is my final day at 'Battlestar.'"

Thompson and Weddle initially served as story editors on BSG season 1, became co-producers for season 2, were given more responsibility as producers during season 3, and became supervising producers for season 4.

Best of luck, boys...and Good Hunting.

They're still writing for Cylon characters: Hodges, Dr. Robbins and Ecklie for sure (and maybe that nerdy lab girl)

Have not seen any of the CSI series, but might have to start watching this one now.

Tip: this comment system sucks. It just took me 10 minutes to leave a simple comment. Have you considered other services like Disqus?

I dont think you have much control over the technical aspects of the blog when you don't host it yourself :(

Either way, sad to see them go - but BSG still has some great writers, and I trust that RDM will make sure that the spirit of BSG will carry on into the movies and beyond :)

I've only watched three series from beginning to end...
1) Deep Space 9
2) BattleStar Galactica
3) Curb Your Enthusiasm

Weddle/Thompson have been writers in 2/3.

The CSI franchise has never interested me. So I guess this is a sad day.

I won't get to see anymore tales of war and camaraderie.

Hopefully all the DS9 & BSG guys will get together one day, form some studio, and take over television.

That'd kick some serious ass. :)

Funny, they are heading over to CSI just when its heading for the toilet.

With Peterson leaving, the show will die a slow death. But maybe soon there will be a CSI:Galactica
