Labor Update

Deadline Hollywood reports that Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa offered to mediate between the WGA and AMPTP. WGA readily agreed to the mayor's offer. AMPTP refused the offer, proving yet again that AMPTP has no desire to reach a fair agreement. However, the Federal mediator has called a meeting between the two parties for Sunday morning in a last minute effort to prevent the WGA walkout starting Monday morning. But, no one seriously expects the strike to be averted at this point. In fact J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of Babylon 5 and the writer of the currently filming "Changeling" directed by Clint Eastwood posted this on his internet group:

In order to have any real impact, the strike will have to be at least
as long as the '88 strike, which lasted six months.
